What Video Games to Engineers Play?

Video games aren't just for pimple-faced adolescents and latch-key kids anymore. They are also for 30 year-old men! And if you're a 30 year-old man that still lives with his parents, then you're likely playing World of Warcraft.

Unfortunately, there is a misconception that all engineers play World of Warcraft, but there is no way we could keep up the required level of addiction and still find time to solve the world's problems.

Personally, my flavor of gaming helps me unwind from a long day's work and sharpens my killer instinct.

Love the vids. Saw them at NI Week. Can't believe they let you do this at work...

In response to the "I do robots.." vid, I was wondering if anyone has encountered the stare when they try to explain what they do. I've found that there are several different flavors of the stare; confused, blank, and my favorite - I look like I'm listening, but I'm really trying to figure out if I can do laundry later.

I'm with you on this side and I highly recommend Crysis. It's on a different league from any other game I've played in the same way that Half-life was 10 years ago.

However, if you want to be able to handle terrorists at the mall, a healthy dose of 24 will probably do you better.

Oh, and regarding the zombie nazies, just play Wolfenstein 3D. The AI at those days would make the guard seem like zombies. :D

Hilarious! And, unintended additional humor: the link that's intended to point to the CERN customer solution...is busted! Where is the LabVIEW app that eliminates 404 errors on the internet? Short of that...maybe just getting the www.blogger.com out of that link? :-)

I like the links and blatant advertising. You must be in technical marketing, right? Because marketing engineers play FPSes and R&D engineers play MMOs...

My 12 year-old plays WoW - so I'm afraid I know the difference between a Warlock and a Mage. I have to agree about FPS vs MMORPG. Nothing beats the immersive environment of all those leading edge FPS games like Wolfenstein and Doom. But then I can get excited by Solitaire.

My company had a little Olympic themed anniversary celebration. One department thought they'd challenge all the others with some WII bobsledding. I said you call that a video game, there aren't even any guns!

Halo + Call of Duty = FPS

;)
