Today is the DAY!!!

After the long anticipated wait, I am glad to announce the new site is ready and will be up this afternoon along with A NEW VIDEO!!!

We're Back Baby!!!

Some of my co-workers are at the Embedded Systems Conference this week in San Jose and they're presenting a session on how smart kids are these days. I mused on the subject and realized that educating children to eventually take my job is not the best idea.




Seriously kids, go watch TV.

About the new site...

So...remember how I was all "look for a new site March 1st" even though everyone, including Carl, said I shouldn't promise anything? You know, the whole "under-promise, over-deliver" thing? Well, crap got serious in the last month and a half or so, and putting up a new website full of funny new videos kinda got de-prioritized on my to-do list.

What got elevated? Looking like a credible software engineer. Working on LabVIEW a little more and my penny-sorting machine a little less.

No, An Engineering Mind isn't going the way of pre-recession era banks. No, I haven't stopped thinking about funny video topics. Yes, I realize that not making any videos for several months is a great way to lose all your attention. SO GET OFF MY BACK!

I'm writing new videos. Better videos. Videos that are so funny you'll poop your pants. That's right, poop. You'll be so embarrassed that you pooped yourself at work while watching my videos. So just hold on a little longer, I'll find time to get the site up, and everything will go back to normal. Promise.

Just make sure to have a change of clothes on hand.

While I Was Away

Sorry for the lack of videos the past few weeks. I spent a week recruiting at my university, finding more great minds like mine to come work for us. Then I spent a week in Denmark eating delicious food and teaching customers about LabVIEW (and of course showing off my sweet intellect). A brief photo recap of my week in the land of the vikings:

Here's me teaching a group of Danish LabVIEW customers about advanced multicore programming. At the beginning of my presentation I told them to remove their socks to save them the embarrassment of me knocking them off with my knowledge. I don't think that American sarcasm translates. At all. It was a very awkward moment in the presentation.

When in Denmark, you have to eat a Danish (see photo above for the crappy American version). But what ever you do, do not ask for a "Danish"!!! The baker will immediately roll their eyes and serve you the pastry that had fallen on the floor just before you arrived. You see, in Denmark, they call their pastries "Vienna Bread" (who knows what the Austrians call them), so don't walk up to the counter snickering and ask a Dane for a Danish. Don't do it. Don't be "that guy."

I'm a huge soccer fan and my trip happened to coincide with a UEFA league game between FC Copenhagen and FC Moscow. It was an amazing experience and I have to thank the Danish office for setting it all up. That's Jack standing with me at the game, he's one of our Danish sales guys. I hate to admit it, but he was pretty cool, even for a sales guy.

I took this picture outside the home where Niels Bohr was born. It was a very special moment on the trip, where my great mind communed with a fellow great mind. It's not his fault that the Bohr model is all wrong and the LabVIEW is helping to prove that at CERN.

Yes, there is a town called Middelfart in Denmark. Yes, I took a picture of the road sign. Yes, I made several inappropriate jokes. Yes, I am seven years old.

I'm back in the office this week, and we'll be posting a new video early next week (finally!). We've received a few questions from viewers and will be answering them with videos soon. Some engineers have had moderate to great success in dating. Others have not. I have been happily married for a while now and would like to tell my fellow engineers a few things I learned the hard way. ENJOY!!!

Alright, so you know what happens the next two days...No, not Carl's retirement. Let's start backwards. On Wednesday, CERN will be turned on.

I would just like to point out, in the event that everything runs smoothly and we don't die in a black hole, that the company I proudly work for, National Instruments, helped by providing data acquisition hardware and software capable of intercepting misguided or unstable particle beams. (Yes, I am doing a little bit of marketing here, but the CERN project is just so freakin awesome!!!)

Now, if a black hole is created, I would just like to point out that the Carl once worked with PXI. Hey, I'm not pointing fingers, I'm just saying.
